Smoke weed AND save come tax time!
With cannabis being legal for medical purposes in Canada, is it really so odd that the CRA now lets us write it off as a medical expense?
Now sitting beside items like insulin and a wheelchair, the agency sees no difference in it when it comes to these items or cannabis regarding a medical expense.
So what's the kicker?
You need a prescription from a doctor, plain and simple. The updated rules also mean that your Chinese doctor or naturopath won't be able to help anymore. Even if you swear to the CRA that your THC helps with your ADD - they still need that doctor's note.
Also (if it wasn't painfully obvious), your medical cannabis must be purchased from a licensed producer. Turns out the federal government doesn't take too kindly to competition.
Also, as with all medical expenses, a person must calculate the full value of the medical cannabis they’ve purchased in total and then subtract either $2,268, or 3 per cent of their net income.
